| The situation: Surfaces for horses to lie on are normally covered in straw. In addition to straw, various other materials are used such as woodchip, sawdust, etc. As well as all the work created by putting down straw and then mucking it out again, there is the additional problem that a large part of the material used gets soaked by the waste products of the horses and has to be removed. This produces large manure heaps which take up a lot of space and are costly to dispose of. Furthermore, it is becoming increasingly difficult for horse owners to find farmers who are prepared to remove manure which has not been fully composted. In practice, deep beds are no longer used, and instead mucking out has to be done every day. The relatively thin, light layer of bedding looks good just after it has been put down. A few hours later, however it will have been almost completely soiled and moved to one side by the horses that are by now lying on the exposed hard floor. |

| The hardwearing solution to the problem: | |||||||||||||||||||||
| HIT SOFTBED© STANDARD for group and individual management For some years the HIT SOFTBED© STANDARD has been used successfully in the management of horses. The Softbeds are 1.80 x 2.40 metres and weigh 100 kilos, and are ideal for use in open stabling and in loose boxes. The soft, flexible surface provides the horses with a durable and comfortable bed, with or without bedding material. The HIT SOFTBED© STANDARD contains a core of 30 mm of foam, which is completely protected by two rubber mats. The rubber matting is sealed round the edges using a vulcanising process, so that no moisture can penetrate it. The HIT SOFTBED© STANDARD is simply placed on the stable floor and its weight prevents the horse from moving it. If need be, several Softbeds can be put together to create larger surfaces for horses to lie on. |

| HIT SOFTBED© PLUS for bedding surfaces in group horsekeeping |

| The HIT SOFTBED© PLUS size 60 x 90 cm, has been specially developed for the needs of horses kept in groups, when they are lying down. The SOFTBED Single sections can be laid in any number to create large surfaces using a system of joining sections. This means that any size can be created, depending on the number of horses and available barn area.
The structural integrity and extremely soft quality of the Softbed surface provide the horses with a much needed high standard of comfort when lying down. The protected inner 60 mm core provides a surface which moulds itself around the horse’s body, in combination with a special flexible joint. The upper and lower surfaces of the HIT SOFTBED© PLUS sections are made of long-lasting rubber, which has a long life even under the toughest conditions. The sides are securely sealed with a sloping rubber edging strip and a corner section, which clips on securely. |
